| Registering Domains
|
To host a web site, you will need to register a domain name or use
a sub-domain of one of our own domains. You can have any of the following
sub-domains if you do not wish to purchase a domain name - |
- yourname.myactivesystems.com
- yourname.myactivesystems.com
- yourname.aunz.cc
- yourname.aunz.nu
|
| Some type of domains have restrictions on them, but normally they
are unrestricted. If you are in the Australia, you are able to register
US domains. Your location is not a restriction. We can host any international
domain. |
| Certain registries have strict guidelines that you must follow
for example Australian domain names require you to have a local address
and have a business or company name in the exact format of your domain
name, otherwise your application will be rejected. |
| Careful thought must also be given to your choice
of domain name, as once domain names are registered, they can not
be changed. We use - http://www.internetnamesww.com/
to register all of our domain here in Australia. You can use any domain
name company worldwide if you wish to register the domain name yourself.
We can register your domains for only the cost of the domain name,
we do not charge to register the actual domain in other words filling
out the form on-line. If you are registering your own domain name,
you will need to notify us first and we will inform you of the DNS
name servers to use, depending on what services you require with us.
If registering an Australian domain name we will need to setup our
DNS service for your domain before you can apply for it. |
| Testing Domain |
| Once you have allowed time for your new domain name to become
'live', you can perform a simple test to see if it is. |
| 1/ Go to http://www.aunic.net/namestatus.html,
and search for your new domain. If this shows a match, this means
the domain has been registered successfully for you. Move on to step
two. |
2/ On machines running windows: open a' DOS Prompt', from
the Start > Programs menu. At the prompt type ping (e.g. ping yourdomain.com.au).
Then press enter. Note: Make sure you type the domain name correctly,
as this could cause incorrect results. If the domain is 'live', you
will see something similar to the details below, and can start using
the domain.
